"I'm an Uber driver and had the unfortunate experience of having a passenger vomit where she was sitting and all along the exterior of my car. I called in and they said I could come in for an estimate and that very same day were able to help me out. They even made my car look better than it did before. They were super professional and understanding."

Why Mold in Cars Is a Seattle Problem

Seattle's wet winters create the perfect environment for mold inside vehicles. A window left cracked, a leaking sunroof, wet gear in the back seat — that's all it takes. Within 24 to 48 hours, mold spores start colonizing carpet, seat foam, and your HVAC system.

If you're searching for "mold smell in my car won't go away" or "black mold on car seat Seattle" — you're in the right place. Derek's has handled car mold removal in Seattle for over 22 years.

    • Visible black, green, or white spots on seats, carpet, or trim

    • History of water damage — sunroof leak, flooding, or open window
    • HVAC blowing a mildew smell when the AC or heat turns on

How Much Does Car Mold Removal Cost in Seattle?

Mold removal is priced based on severity. Mild surface cases are on the lower end. Severe or long-standing mold — where seat removal or carpet pad replacement is needed — is quoted after inspection. We'll tell you exactly what you're looking at before we start. Problem 1: Your Car Has Become a Health Hazard

That smell isn't just embarrassing anymore—it's dangerous. Mold spores are multiplying in your vents. Pet dander is embedded so deep you can't breathe. Food spills have created bacterial breeding grounds. Every day you wait, the contamination spreads deeper into your car's systems, making it harder and more expensive to fix.

Problem 2: Regular Detailers Keep Turning You Away

You've called five different car washes. They all say the same thing: "Sorry, we can't handle that." They're scared of your car because they don't have the equipment, training, or stomach for disaster-level cleanups. Meanwhile, you're stuck driving a rolling biohazard that's getting worse every day.

Problem 3: You're One Bad Day Away from Losing Thousands

Your car's value is plummeting every hour. Insurance won't cover "neglect damage." Dealerships will lowball you into the ground. You're facing a choice between driving a contaminated vehicle or taking a massive financial loss on what should be a fixable problem.

    The Emergency Reset System

While other detailers turn away disaster cars, we've spent years perfecting a process specifically for vehicles other shops won't touch. Every car is different—some come back looking factory-new, others have permanent wear that can't be reversed. We're upfront about what's realistic during your walk-through, then we go all in to get the best possible result using hospital-grade sanitization, industrial extraction, and specialized protocols.

    Real Results From Real Disasters

Every car is different—here's what our Emergency Reset process looks like on actual client vehicles.

    How the Emergency Reset Works

    1

    Walk-Through & Assessment

We do a full inspection at check-in, identify what we can improve, and set clear expectations before any work begins. No surprises.

    2

    Deep Decontamination

Hospital-grade sanitization targets mold, bacteria, and odors at the source using specialized equipment tailored to your situation.

    3

    Maximum Restoration

We bring your car as close to new as possible, factoring in existing wear and tear. You'll see a dramatic difference.

"Mold was growing in my car for at least a week after my window got smashed on a stormy night. I made an appointment right before close online and then promptly got a call from Jay who helped me secure the first appointment the next morning. Marco gave me a quote and said it would be ready in about 5 hours. They called right when I expected and it was spotless. They even did the ozone machine at no extra charge to get rid of any spores."

Frequently Asked Questions — Car Mold Removal Seattle

Seattle's climate — heavy rainfall, high humidity, and cool temperatures — makes vehicles one of the most mold-prone environments in the country. Once moisture gets trapped from a leaky sunroof, wet carpets, or condensation, mold spores begin growing within 24 to 48 hours. This is why car mold removal in Seattle is a year-round service, not a seasonal one.

Mildew is surface-level and typically easier to treat. Mold penetrates porous materials — carpet padding, foam seat cushions, headliners — and releases spores. If the smell keeps coming back after you've cleaned it yourself, it's almost certainly mold. DIY products remove visible growth but rarely reach the source.

The cost depends on severity. Light surface mold is on the lower end. Cases involving water damage, sub-carpet mold, or HVAC contamination are quoted after inspection. We don't quote blind — you'll get a clear answer before we start.

You can, but mold spores circulate through your HVAC system every time you drive. People with allergies, asthma, or respiratory sensitivity will feel it. We recommend treating it as soon as you notice the smell or visible spots.

Yes. Fabric seats, leather seats, and the foam underneath are all treated. In severe cases we remove seats entirely to access and treat the carpet padding and floor pan beneath.

Most standard jobs are completed same-day. Severe cases requiring full disassembly may take one to two days. We'll give you a timeframe when you bring the car in or send us photos first.

Derek's Auto Detail is on Aurora Ave N in North Seattle. We serve clients from Northgate, Shoreline, Lynnwood, Edmonds, Ballard, Fremont, and surrounding neighborhoods.

    Frequently Asked Questions

We've worked on cars with dead animals, sewage backup, and month-old food spills. Every situation is different—some come back looking factory-new, others have permanent staining or wear that can't be reversed. We do a full walk-through at check-in so you know exactly what to expect before we start.

Most disaster cars take 4-6 hours. Severe cases may require overnight treatment for complete odor elimination.

Our 30-day guarantee covers the work we agreed on during your walk-through. If an odor we targeted comes back, we re-treat it at no charge.

Yes, we handle bodily fluids, chemical spills, and contamination cleanup following proper safety protocols.

Cigarette odor is one of our most common requests. Results depend on severity—light smoke can be fully eliminated, while years of heavy smoking may have some residual traces in headliners or foam. We'll be upfront about what's realistic during your walk-through.

We do a detailed walk-through at check-in and agree on what we can realistically improve. If something we committed to wasn't handled properly, we make it right—no questions asked. The guarantee covers the scope we agreed on, not pre-existing permanent damage like sun-bleached upholstery or deep structural stains that were discussed during check-in.

    Satisfaction Guarantee — Terms

Our 100% satisfaction guarantee applies to the scope of work agreed upon during your check-in walk-through. Before any work begins, we inspect your vehicle together, identify what can realistically be improved, and set clear expectations. If something we committed to wasn't handled to standard, we'll make it right at no additional cost.

The guarantee does not cover pre-existing permanent damage discussed during check-in, including but not limited to: sun-bleached or heat-damaged upholstery, deep structural stains that have penetrated beyond the fabric surface, cracked or warped dashboard and trim components, permanent dye transfer, cigarette burns, or tears in leather and vinyl. These conditions will be identified and documented during your walk-through.

Our 30-day odor guarantee covers odors specifically targeted during your service. If a treated odor returns within 30 days, we will re-treat the affected area at no charge. However, some odors — like long-term heavy smoking — can soak deep into plastics, headliners, and interior materials, and mold or mildew may stem from moisture trapped under carpets, padding, or the vehicle's body. Coverage is subject to our initial walk-through inspection, where we'll be upfront about what's realistic to achieve. This guarantee does not cover new odor sources introduced after service or odors tied to underlying moisture or structural issues requiring mechanical repair.

Guarantee claims must be made within 30 days of service completion. Vehicle must be returned in reasonable condition (no new contamination or damage since service). Derek's Auto Detail reserves the right to document vehicle condition at check-in and check-out via photos.
